Sept 21 - Oct 12, 2016
Family literacy values the learning, skills and knowledge passed on from one generation to the next as well as those created created together. Parents and guardians play an important role in literacy through modeling, interacting and encouraging children to read, write and use math. Our Family Literacy Program aims to give adults the skills they need to raise and foster strongly literate youth.
The Family Literacy Program has three community partners: Thunder Bay Literacy Group,
Thunder Bay Public Library and Communities Together for Children. This partnership takes the strengths of all three partners to create a team of enthusiastic and dedicated people.
This four week program strives to provide parents and guardians who may not be confidently literate with strategies to raise literate children. In order to extend participants' abilities and confidence, we will be able to make referrals to other programs and services. Overall, our goal is to strengthen communities by raising the literacy level of children and their parents together.
