Job Opening: Interim Executive Director

Thunder Bay Literacy Group is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Title: Interim Executive Director

Purpose: The responsibility of the Interim Executive Director is: 1) to comply with the Board of Directors Policies, 2) to oversee program delivery and set the overall tone for the program, and 3) to ensure that adults in the Thunder Bay region have an opportunity to acquire or improve literacy, numeracy and computer skills.

Terms: 18 month leave coverage

Position opening fall of 2018

Deadline: May 28, 2018, 12:00 p.m. – no phone calls, please. Those considered will be required to successfully complete a computerized activity test.

Responsibilities:

A) Board of Directors

  • Keep the Board of Directors informed about all matters affecting the integrity of the organization
  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings and provide input as required by the Board of Directors
  • Provide the board monitoring reports at times identified by the board workplan
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives in co-operation with the Fund Developer, Fundraising Committee and the Board of Directors

B) Administrative

  • Human Resource Management -- Effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to TBLG personnel policies and procedures
  • Provide ongoing direction and support to staff as well as orientation to new staff
  • Draft budgets and funding applications, arrange for purchase of services, teaching resources and administrative supplies while operating within the budget
  • Ensure that appropriate and accurate financial records are maintained on an ongoing basis
  • Complete year end financial reports for the organization and appropriate reports for funders
  • Ensure reporting and all other requirements are met to maintain charitable and incorporated non-profit status
  • Maintain control of petty cash and Training Support petty cash
  • Negotiate and uphold lease agreements with landlord and service providers
  • Conform to current laws and regulations

C) Community

  • Create and enhance a positive reputation and community profile of the Thunder Bay Literacy Group in the community and with other literacy providers
  • Network with peer organizations in Northwestern Ontario
  • Advocate on behalf of the Thunder Bay Literacy Group and literacy issues

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in an environment of constant change, and work with a group of diverse people.
  • Knowledge of adult literacy philosophies and programming
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to Thunder Bay Literacy Group mission
  • Non-judgmental
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Advanced computer skills: Mac & PC, spreadsheets, word processing software, databases.
  • Experience evaluating program outcomes
  • Experience working with volunteer Board of Directors
  • Working knowledge of Carver model of policy governance
  • Knowledge of and experience in Human Resource Management
  • Knowledge of and experience in Financial Management
  • Relevant training and/or experience
  • Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
  • Other duties as required
  • Use of a vehicle is required
