Thunder Bay Literacy group is currently accepting applications for the following position:

Title: Interim Program Director

Purpose: Coordinate program delivery

Train/support/supervise instructors & Volunteer Coordinator

Time: 18 month leave coverage

Position opening Fall of 2018

Responsibilities:

A) Coordination

  • Adapt and modify the program to meet the requirements of the funders in consultation with the Executive Director
  • Adapt and modify program components to meet the requirements of the organization and the funders in consultation with the Executive Director
  • Become thoroughly familiar with initial learner assessments and learner plan development in order to train, supervise and assist staff as needed
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure consistent program delivery in consultation with affected staff
  • Interview and screen potential learners (Intake)
  • Refer learner to appropriate program (within Thunder Bay Literacy Group or other provider)
  • Ensure staff stay informed to provide all clients and callers with appropriate information or referrals
  • Recruit, screen, interview and hire supply instructors to ensure adequate numbers of supply instructors are available to meet program needs
  • Participate in the development and periodic evaluation of an annual outreach/marketing plan along with the Volunteer Coordinator and the Executive Director
  • Ensure the delivery of quality customer service to meet the requirements of the organization and the funders in consultation with the Executive Director.

B) Supervision

  • Train, supervise and support instructors, supply instructors (volunteer tutors as needed) & Volunteer Coordinator in program delivery
  • Train, supervise and support Volunteer Coordinator in fundraising activities
  • Inform instructors/Volunteer Coordinator of any changes in funders’ requirements
  • Ensure program policies and procedures are observed
  • Ensure funders’ guidelines are observed
  • Address classroom issues that may arise
  • Ensure files are maintained to funders’ specifications
  • Adapt and develop program delivery to meet the requirements of the organization and the funders
  • Evaluate instructors’ and Volunteer Coordinator’s performance
  • Ensure maintenance of library database, and availability of teaching resources

C) Administration

  • Develop records & tracking systems for various purposes, as needed
  • Collect and provide statistical information as required by funders and the Thunder Bay Literacy Group
  • Fulfill the responsibilities of “Service Provider Registration Authority” (SPRA) by assigning authorized TBLG employees access to EOIS-CaMS and managing TBLG’s access to EOIS-CaMS on terms and conditions relating to security and privacy
  • Maintain CaMS and other record keeping systems (spreadsheets, databases and files), waiting lists, class lists, assessment dates, etc., and ensure privacy rights are respected
  • Maintain and revise as necessary “Classroom Policies and Procedures”
  • Maintain list of current supply instructors, updating list and recruiting more supply instructors as needed
  • Monitor Employment Ontario Self Service email account and reply as necessary
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, adult literacy and related issues.
  • Commitment to the program’s philosophy and policies
  • Good oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Excellent time-management, analytical and administrative skills, including attention to detail
  • Experience in supervision and/or management
