Job Description - Volunteer Coordinator

Title: Volunteer Coordinator

Purpose:

  • To deliver that part of the program which is directly related to learners and tutors
  • Coordinate Fundraising activities
  • Recruit volunteers and learners

Time: Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Start Date: Tuesday, September 3, 2019

Location: Program office/other

Deadline: Tuesday, July 16, 2019

Responsibilities:

A)Recruitment / Orientation

  • Recruit learners, tutors and volunteers
  • Interview and screen potential learners and volunteers
  • Train and provide orientation to volunteers
  • Promote organizational events and programs
  • Develop and revise outreach materials
  • Participate in the development and periodic evaluation of an annual outreach/marketing plan along with the Program Director and the Executive Director

B)Assessment / Referral

  • Conduct initial assessment of one-to-one learners
  • Develop a goal-oriented learner plan with the learner
  • Arrange matches between learners and tutors
  • Provide support to learner/tutor pairs and monitor progress
  • Refer learner to appropriate community programs or services

C)Administration

  • Adapt and modify the program to meet the requirements of the funder (as directed by the Program Director)
  • Keep records documenting learner progress
  • Collect and provide statistical/outcome information as required by funders and the Thunder Bay Literacy Group
  • Maintain various databases, spreadsheets, and paper files to track program information
  • Plan and coordinate annual fundraising events in co-operation with the Fundraising Committee and the Executive Director
  • Attend Professional Days as recommended/required
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, adult literacy and related issues
  • Experience in volunteer management or education is an asset
  • Commitment to the program’s philosophy and policies
  • Good oral, written, and presentation skills
  • Excellent time-management, analytical and administrative skills, including attention to detail
  • Use of vehicle and valid drivers license is required
